For those going on the Land of Enchantment Ride here is a tentative itinerary with basic information. I apologize for the delay in posting this but I have been tied up with travel and work and haven't had a chance to post anything. Leave Wed May 21st from Cracker Barrel restaurant at 380 and I 35 in Denton at 8:00. (KSU) Route going out will follow 380 west to Lubbock then Clovis to Tucumcari NM. Approx mileage Denton to Tucumcari: 480 miles Wed night: Tucumcari NM. Lodging at the Motel Safari on old Highway 66. The Safari hotel is one
of the historic hotels on old Route 66 that has been updated and
improved. It is one of the small motor court hotels that were popular
in the 50's before the interstate killed Route 66. The hotel only has
15 rooms total and we have 10 of those rooms reserved for our groups
plus 1 suite so 11 rooms total. Gail the owner gave us a killer rate
for the one night and the rates are as follows: Single regular king room- $49 per night (they have 3 available) Regular double with 2 full size beds- $49 per night (They have 5 available) A two room suite with 1 bedroom w/ king bed and sitting area - $94.95 night Call them at 1-575 461-1048
and speak with Gail who is the owner. Tell her you are with the
Lone Star Riders group and all the rooms above are blocked off for our
use. Any unreserved rooms will be released back to the general hotel
inventory by the middle of April if they aren't reserved. You can check out the hotels website at "thesafarihotel.com" or just google The Safari Hotel Tucumcari NM. If
we need more rooms than what the Safari has we do have some overflow
contingency plans at another historic motor coach hotel which is almost
across the street. Thurs May 22nd : Head to Taos via 104 to Las Vegas and then 518 up to Taos. Approximate mileage to Taos: 185 miles Thurs night: Taos NM. Lodging at El Pueblo Lodge Hotel : El Pueblo Lodge. Phone: 855-579-9255 They have a good
selection of rooms at this point although there is limited availability
for the single queen rooms. The room rates quoted to me are as
follows: Two queens: $128.99 Single King: $137.99 Single Queen: $104.99 They do have a couple of suites available : $133.49 for either one. One has 2 Queen beds in it and a sitting area with a fold out couch One has two separate bedrooms with one bedroom having a King bed in it and one bedroom having a Queen bed in it. Both of them have a single bathroom. They are giving us a 10% discount off of their normal rates. When you call please tell them you are with the Lone Star Riders Plano
group so that they reserve the right date and put your reservation with
the right group. The reason for this is that they have the Lone Star
BMW group staying there in July and want to make sure they don't book
our rooms with the other group and vice versa. The hotel is located in the downtown area and is walking distance to the square and restaurants. Continental breakfast is included. I would suggest reserving your rooms as soon as possible as they are not holding the rooms and the 10% off they are giving us will be off the current standard room rate at the time you make your reservations. The rates above are based on today's normal room rate. Also this is not a large hotel and they only have a total of 50 rooms available for rent. The do have a website or you can google EL Pueblo lodge Taos
New Mexico if you want to preview the property. I checked several
places online that review hotels and I could not find any bad reviews
for this place. Fri May 23rd: Sante Fe Loop , or Bandelier National Monument and Los Alamos Sat May 24th : Sante Fe Loop or Bandelier National Monument and Los Alamos or enchanted circle loop. Sunday May 25th : Depart Taos for home. Will head North thru Cimarron via back roads to 140 and then stopping in Amarillo for the night. Approximate mileage to Amarillo: 303 miles Sunday night: lodging in Amarillo.(lodging to be posted in next day or so). Dinner at Big Texan Steakhouse. Ok here is the last nights lodging information in Amarillo for those going on the NM ride. Hotel: Microtel Inn and Suites By Wyndham Amarillo Address: 1501 Ross St Amarillo Texas 79102 (Hotel is a couple blocks north of I40 on Ross St) Phone: 806-372-8373 They are holding 7 rooms under the name " Lone Star Riders" They will hold them until May 18th and then the unused rooms will be released back into the general hotel inventory Check in: Sunday May 25th Check out : Monday May 26th Rooms : All have 2 queen beds in them Rates: $69.99 per night Give
